Vorsah is a key players for the Black Stars
By Ameenu Shardow, Port Elizabeth
Ghana will start first-choice defender Isaac Vorsah when they play Mali in Thursday’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations match in Port Elizabeth.
The Austria-based centre-back missed the Black Stars opening Group B match against DR Congo on Sunday due to a groin injury.
Ghana are keen on boosting their squad in the crucial match that could determine their chances of reaching the second round of the competition.
Since making his return from injury, coach Kwesi Appiah has used the Red Bull Salzburg player at the heart of the defence in the team’s training sessions.
Vorsah was played at that same position during the Black Stars final training session ahead of the match against the Malians.
“Vorsah will be available for selection as he has started training again after his injury,” said Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.
The former German Bundesliga defender is likely to play alongside Rennes defender John Boye ahead of Turkey-based Jerry Akaminko.
Mali have an early advantage in Group B thanks to their 1-0 win over Niger in their opening game of the group on Sunday.
The victory means they top of group on three points after Ghana were held to a 2-2 draw by DR Congo at the group’s Port Elizabeth venue.
