Vitus Azeem Executive Secretary of the Ghana Integrity Initiative has endorsed the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)flagship free Senior High School (SHS) education policy.Vitus Azeem said the argument about the policy should be on how the NPP intends to implement it policy rather than questioning its feasibility.Vitus Azeem made this known when appeared on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday. The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pooh-poohed the free SHS policy championed by the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo insisting that the quality and standards of the country’s educational system would be compromised. The ruling party has proposed the expansion of infrastructure and provision of resources to the schools across the country to address the bottlenecks facing the current educational system. But Vitus Azeem maintained that free secondary education is viable if the leadership at the helm of affairs set their priorities right.“I think strongly that if we are determined as a nation to provide free secondary education, it will be possible. It requires some sacrifices especially from the ruling elites” he added. The Anti-corruption crusader observed that the time for free education in the country is now hence political leaders should endeavor to make education accessible to everyone across Ghana.Vitus Azeem noted that if ministers and other high ranking offices in the country are ready to sacrifice half of their allowances; the country can provide free education.Asked by the show host whether his endorsement of the NPP’s education policy will not compromise his position, Azeem opined that, his desire is to seek the interest of Ghana and not to please any political party or group.“Ghanaians must be bold and say what they think about issues it does not matter where they say you belong” he said.Vitus Azeem called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to support the NPP’s cause to ensure the free secondary education becomes a reality.
