Parliament of Ghana Members of Parliament yesterday underscored the need for the government to consider seriously the welfare of fishermen in the country as a result of their peculiar problems after the Member of Parliament (MP) for Efutu, Alex Afenyo-Markin had told Parliament about the difficult situation fishermen at Winneba are going through, after a rainstorm destroyed their canoes and nets on Sunday, May 19. The MP for Efutu in a statement on the floor of Parliament yesterday, May 30, drew the attention of government to the plight of fishermen at Winneba in his constituency when rainstorm raided through the town and the beach destroying about 50 canoes, some outboard motors and unspecified amount of nets running into GH¢400,000. ...
