Ghana U20 team loses first game against Egypt
Ghana got its campaign at the 2013 African Youth Championships to the worst possible start with a 2-1 defeat to Egypt on Saturday.
A late striker from the spot Saleh Goma to hand the Young Pharaohs all three points at stake.
The Black Satellites fell behind in the 66th minute with a flicked in header off a free kick by Hamad Mahmoud.
Sellas Tetteh’s team however restored parity six minutes later with a volleyed-in effort from Ebenezer Assifuah.
The Ghana team was however punished for leaving spaces at the back late in pursuit of the winner.
A swift move by the Egyptians saw goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi giving away a penalty four minutes from time.
Gomaa stepped up and converted – sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
The win now puts Egypt on top of Group A with Ghana confined to the bottom following the goalless draw game between hosts Algeria and Benin in the group’s opening fixture.
