Ghanaian arrested at Detroit Airport with $400,000 worth of Heroin

On Tuesday, January 8, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport seized 1.8 kilograms of heroin from a Ghanaian citizen arriving from Amsterdam, Netherlands.

A CBP officer’s examination of the individual’s belongings revealed a package containing heroin, with an estimated street value of $400,000.

“The relentless efforts and dedication of frontline CBP employees has resulted in the interdiction of these illicit drugs, preventing them from reaching the streets and doing harm.” said Devin Chamberlain, CBP Port Director.

The individual was arrested and turned over to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations agents. The U.S. Attorney’s office will prosecute the individual.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
