AWKA—TENSION is mounting in the once peaceful Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, following alleged hijack of the N2 million donated by Governor Peter Obi to the town to enable presidents-general of the 178 communities in the state provide security and grade roads during the last Christmas season.

While presidents-general of other communities received their cheques from the governor before the Christmas and utilised the money as directed, the cheque for Ekwulobia was allegedly missing such that the president-general of Ekwulobia Development Union, Mr. Emeka Maduabuchi, who was present to collect the cheque, went home empty handed.

As a result, no community work was done in the area during the festive period, which has made the people to complain bitterly and threaten to get to the root of the matter.

In an open letter to Governor Obi weekend, the town’s president-general, Maduabuchi, and secretary, Mr. Vincent Okonkwo, accused the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Emmanuel Onyeneke, and  transition committee chairman of Aguata council area, Chief Titus Anigbogu, of allegedly conniving with the special adviser to Governor Obi on Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Chief Godfrey Muotolu, of  hijacking the money, thereby undermining the good intentions of government.
