Many devastated by Ford Kamel’s death

Henry Ford Kamel

Many people including leading members of the ruling NDC – party’s National Chairman Dr Kwabena Adjei and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Doe Adjaho – were utterly shocked and remained speechless when the body of the late Volta Regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamel arrived at the 37 Military Hospital.

The Minister collapsed on Tuesday afternoon at his home town Guaman in the Volta Region whilst engaged in a conversation with his guests. He however died few hours later at the Jasikan Government Hospital where he was rushed for treatment.

Many of the family members and sympathizers who went to the hospital to ascertain the reality about Mr Kamel’s unfortunate demise wept uncontrollably when they saw his lifeless body, moment before he was taken to the morgue.

Even vocal persons such as Dr Kwabena Adjei and Edward Doe Adjaho were seriously hit by his death and could not muster words to form a sentence when Joy News’ Nana Adjei Essuman attempted to seek their thought.

Former deputy General Secretary of NDC, Kofi Adams who managed to speak to Joy News described the late Ford Kamel as a “great person, he was a builder”.

“We will badly miss him, the constituents will miss him so badly, we pray that the good Lord himself will give us a good replacement at this moment,” Mr Adams remarked, and expressed his condolence to the wife and children.

Maxwell Owusu Siaw, Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the NDC, told Joy News he was at home when the late Minister’s driver called to inform him that Mr Karmel had collapsed whilst chatting with some people at his village in Guaman.

“All of a sudden he collapsed and he was rushed to Jasikan Hospital”, he narrated what the driver told him.

Mr Siaw said the doctor on duty immediately rushed to the hospital when he was told that the Minister was in a critical condition.

He said the doctors were attending to him whilst arrangement was being made for him to be flown to Accra, “so when they were bringing the helicopter [to the village] that I heard that he has passed away”, he recounted.

“He was not ill,” Mr Owusu Siaw recalled.

A close friend of the late Minister, Naval Captain (Rtd) Kodwo Buttah described Mr Henry Ford Kamel as “a very good man who has been taken away without warning… A firm person, very good worker, very nice individual who had very bright political future ahead of him; it is a shame he had to be taken away from us”.
